About The Position

The Receiving Planner is responsible for the assignment of trailers at the Distribution Centers. They must ensure the proper mix of product characteristics to meet all volume and UPH requirements. As trailers are received at the DC, they will analyze the content for specific characteristics and then properly assign the trailer to the appropriate DC or zone. They are responsible for building a daily trailer plan that will meet the building’s needs. The Receiving Planner must consider several attributes when creating this trailer plan. These attributes include, but are not limited to: Trailer aging, Product Commodity type, Markable versus Pre-ticket, Flow versus Hotel, Zone Capacity, Pick Engine Capacity, and Priority Status. The primary objective is to maximize the DC’s capacity to process inbound freight. The Receiving Planner is responsible for the execution of time sensitive trailer movement between all Ross inbound trailer yards and must ensure receiving doors are always full. This role is ultimate responsible for getting trailers processed at the right place and the right time. In addition to the trailer planning aspect of the Receiving Planner’s role, they also play a lead role in the DC’s 5-S program, building Career fairs, and oversee the production and distribution of a variety of daily reports that are necessary for the Operations team. They are also responsible for tracking historical data and utilizing this observations to work with ops and provide insight on upcoming challenges or obstacles. They will interface daily with the building VP and all levels of DC management, the Receiving Office team, their counterparts at the other DC’s, Production Planning, HR, and our staffing agency partners.

Requirements

  • Advanced working knowledge of Excel, Access, MS Windows, and Word
  • 3 years’ experience with Microsoft Excel or Access data base and linking or other spreadsheet software
  • Polished communication and interpersonal skills (Bilingual a plus)
  • Ability to constructively influence parties with conflicting interests
  • Negotiation skills
  • Ability to communicate with all levels and departments within the company, including Corporate Planning, Distribution, Merchants and Transportation
  • Must be able to work independently
  • Prior experience demonstrating good organizational skills
  • Working knowledge of processing types by UPS required
  • 5 years’ experience in DC operations required

Nice To Haves

  • 2 years’ experience in production planning is recommended
  • Prior Transportation experience helpful

Responsibilities

  • Analyze and assign all incoming trailers to the correct DC and production zone based on volume requirements and product characteristics. Execute to support the production plan by UPS.
  • Organize trailers in FIFO \ product characteristics that result in an optimal mix between distribution centers. Meet processing requirements as well as trailer aging requirements. Produce daily trailer plan specific to this process.
  • Develop a tracking mechanism that captures critical data that supports proper analysis and assignment of trailers.
  • Perform periodic yard audit of trailers.
