About The Position

The YMCA of the National Capital Region is seeking a RECE Educator to implement programs for a specific age group, adhering to the YMCA's program policies and philosophy. The role involves meeting the individual needs of each child, considering their interests, special needs, talents, and learning pace. The RECE Educator must maintain a courteous and professional demeanor with parents, members, and the public, serving as a role model who exemplifies YMCA values and a high work ethic. This is a unionized position.

Requirements

  • ECE diploma or CECE recognized equivalency preferred
  • Fluent in English, oral and written
  • Member in good standing of the College of Early Childhood Educators of Ontario, as required
  • Minimum two years of experience working with children
  • High level of interpersonal and written skills
  • Must be a registered RECE Educator
  • Applicants must have a current Standard First Aid and CPR "C" certification.
  • Applicants must already have a valid permit to work in Canada.
  • A Police Record check, not more than 6 months old is required.
  • Semi-annually, staff must complete the mandatory training for the protection of Children & Youth and submit the certificate of completion.

Responsibilities

  • Creating an educational, safe, clean and enjoyable environment for children by planning and implementing age-appropriate programs to meet children’s social, emotional, physical, educational and individual needs under the Y Playing to Learn curriculum.
  • Fostering self-esteem, problem-solving and conflict resolution skills in children.
  • Developing and maintaining constructive and open communication with staff.
  • Understanding and following through on all YMCA policies, procedures and guidelines, as outlined in the Policies and Procedures Manual and Parent Handbook.
  • Participating in a team-teaching approach in the supervision of the children and the development of the program.
  • Preparing snacks and completing housekeeping duties for the child care programs on a rotational basis with other educators.
