About The Position

Upper Canada Child Care is recruiting Registered Early Childhood Educators (RECEs) to join their team in Thornhill at St. Giovanni Battista Scalabrini CES. This position is to fill a new vacancy and offers casual supply status with variable hours, requiring availability for a minimum of 5 assigned shifts per month. The role involves ensuring operational and curriculum requirements are met, delivering a developmentally appropriate, inquiry/play-based program, and adhering to all internal and external guidelines. Upper Canada Child Care is a non-profit licensed provider operating since 1983, with over 85 centers across Toronto, York Region, and Simcoe County, offering various programs including full-day, before and after school, summer camps, and forest school. They are committed to play-based learning, outdoor exploration, and providing specialized supports and training, guided by values of support, trust, safety, respect, and professionalism.

Requirements

  • Diploma or degree in Early Childhood Education from a recognized college or university.
  • A recent Police Vulnerable Sector Check.
  • At least 18 years of age or older due to licensing requirements.
  • Health assessment and up-to-date record of immunization as outlined by legislation.
  • Up-to-date registration with the College of ECEs.
  • Up-to-date certification in CPR-C and Standard First Aid (training provided upon selection if required).
  • Experience with inquiry/play based program design and implementation, and with the use of pedagogical documentation.
  • Uses initiative; applies sound reason in solving problems and resolves conflict in a calm, professional manner.
  • Proven ability to communicate (written and verbal) effectively and establish appropriate relationships with families, coworkers and other professionals.
  • Have the physical and emotional stamina to effectively supervise children in a variety of settings including outdoor public spaces.
  • Ability to use computer systems and programs; including Dayforce, and Storypark.
  • Moderate level of physical effort is regularly required; including but not limited to kneeling, pushing, pulling, bending, and carrying.

Responsibilities

  • Applies professional knowledge of child development and current legislative expectations to support a program that is consistent with Ministry of Education requirements and in accordance with Upper Canada Child Care’s program statement.
  • Adheres to the Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice as outlined by the Ontario College of Early Childhood Educators.
  • Keeps team and supervisor apprised of compliance issues or problems related to governing regulation and internal policy.
  • Engages with the children and provides a positive learning experience. Provides a range of care including assisting with meals/snacks, toileting, diapering, dressing, etc.
  • Participates in professional development opportunities, staff meetings and training sessions as required.
  • Completes program charts, daily logs, reports, and other administration tasks as required.
  • Provides guidance to assistant educators, students and volunteers as needed.
  • Models expectations for student teachers from colleges, universities, secondary schools, etc. Completes documentation from Educational Institutions as required.
  • Fosters the engagement of and ongoing communication with parents about the program and their children. Attends parent and community meetings as needed.
  • Uses Storypark for pedagogical documentation as a guide for program development.
  • Effectively collaborates and communicates with other team members, school personnel, and outside agencies to help support the needs of all children.
  • Identifies children in need of additional support. Guides parents through the process of accessing resources. Helps design and implement individual support plans as required.
