About The Position

Effectively perform Engineering Department duties as they relate to the Structural Steel detailing process. This role involves reviewing contract drawings and specifications, producing detailed drawings for fabrication and erection, and resolving discrepancies. The detailer will also learn the functions of the detailing department and its interaction with other departments.

Requirements

• Good conceptual abilities required in order to learn to read and understand structural and architectural design drawings.
• Knowledge and skill of a detailing software.
• Basic computer skills including word processing and spreadsheet capability.
• Excellent skills in leading or working as a member of a team.
• Excellent skills and habits regarding attention to details.
• Superior math skills.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Good overall work habits that fit into a team environment.
• Hear sufficiently to be aware of safety issues.
• Visual ability to read and interpret material to satisfactorily do job.
• Wear all required Personal Protective Equipment. PPE includes steel-toe safety shoes, hearing protection, safety glasses, gloves, and hard hats.

Responsibilities

• Review contract drawings and specifications for general requirements, special requirements, and potential problems.
• Review DWS estimate and scope and compare it with the contract drawings specifications and addendums.
• Produce anchor bolt plans, erection drawings, assembly drawings and shop drawings required to complete fabrication and erection of a project.
• Resolve discrepancies in design drawings and specifications.
• Solve nonconformance issues that arise in fabrication, with the authority to do so or by consulting the Engineering Manager.
• Document and maintain required project files.
• Learn the basic functions of the detailing department and how detailing personnel work with others in estimating, project management, purchasing and shop fabrication.
• Perform other misc. Engineering Department duties as required.
