About The Position

Solid Waste Services of West Virginia Inc. is a growing, family-owned company seeking reliable, motivated, and hardworking Rear Load Drivers for its Proctor, WV Division. This role is critical to the company's success, ensuring the safe and responsible collection of trash and recycling in a supportive, family-like environment.

Requirements

  • A valid WV Commercial Driver’s License (CDL Class B or equivalent) with air brake endorsement.
  • Must meet all required DOT physical and medical requirements and pass a substance abuse screening.
  • As a safety sensitive employee, all drivers are subject to random substance abuse screening under DOT and company policy.
  • Ability to effectively deal with customers and co-workers.
  • Requires a high degree of attention and considerable dexterity in the control of the vehicle to prevent damage to truck, equipment, or surrounding items.
  • Ability to sit in the cab of the truck for long periods.
  • Able to bend, stoop, and climb into and out of the vehicle and body unassisted multiple times a day.
  • Ability to push/pull heavy wheeled containers requiring heavy pushing/pulling force.
  • Ability to lift 75 pounds.
  • Ability to work outside in all types of weather.
  • May be required to exit and enter truck multiple times during a shift and may be required to push/pull wheeled containers weighing up to several hundred pounds into position for pick up.

Responsibilities

  • Operate a front load trash truck in accordance with DOT Regulations, Company policy, and established standards for excellent customer service on established subscription routes or municipal territories.
  • Transport and dump municipal wastes at a regulated transfer station or approved landfill.
  • Coordinate regularly with the Route Supervisor, Dispatch or Operations Manager to ensure all stops are picked up, receive special instructions, and communicate any questions regarding materials, overweight or oversized items.
  • Obtain load weight tickets and sign for loads, maintaining related records such as driver’s log, route sheets, work orders, special request work, and missed pick up logs.
  • Clean truck daily, including the cab, ensuring the vehicle meets company expectations and no trash remains after route completion.
  • Perform daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections as outlined in the pre and post-trip vehicle condition report.
  • Report any maintenance issues on the vehicle condition report (VCR) immediately to the route supervisor or operations manager.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
