About The Position

The Real Time Operations Engineer serves as the primary technical specialist for renewable asset operations, providing advanced troubleshooting, performance analysis, and technical leadership to ensure optimal system performance. This role combines deep technical expertise from field engineering, performance engineering with operational oversight to drive asset optimization. The Real time Operations Engineer combines real time, remote troubleshooting, analysis and active resolution for Field and OCC teams. The Real Time Operations Engineer will work closely with all Operational Technology teams, Performance and Reliability Engineering teams, and Field Engineering teams to drive positive business outcomes.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of direct technical field engineering and operations experience required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent work experience in field engineering, manufacturing, or operations.
  • Experience or in-depth knowledge of RTO, system operators, NERC regulations, utility electrical generation relationships and regulations.
  • Evidence of problem-solving skills and improving the day-to-day operations of a department.
  • Must have a working knowledge of IT systems.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills.
  • The ability to communicate with all levels, from senior management to front-line operational technology and field personnel.
  • Excellent presentation and IT skills are required.
  • Experience with Real-time troubleshooting + remote resolution.
  • Direct field experience in renewable energy.
  • Ability to independently solve complex issues.
  • Background in both field operations and engineering analysis.
  • Working knowledge of Aspen OSI Monarch SCADA, AVEVA PI, Power BI, SCADA systems (Ignition, RTAC Controllers, PLC logic controllers, etc.) and Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the highest-level technical resource for renewable asset operations in the OCC.
  • Perform advanced analysis of SCADA data system and alerts, protection relay event files, electrical system disturbances, and equipment performance anomalies.
  • Lead complex troubleshooting efforts for inverter and power conversion systems, collection and distribution networks, and plant control and monitoring systems.
  • Interpret electrical schematics and technical drawings for system analysis.
  • Provide technical guidance to OCC operators and field teams during critical events.
  • Lead fleet-wide troubleshooting.
  • Ensure real-time plant event management and MOD/functional testing.
  • Liaise between the OCC, field operations, PRE and OT, gathering and integration input from all parties to develop, maintain, and implement effective SOPs and operational documents for the OCC that reflects best practices, compliance, and lessons learned from field operations.
  • Manage the creation, maintenance, and updating of necessary OCC documentation for reliable system operations.
  • Support integration of new technology into the OCC, including application systems and Monarch adjustments. Coordinating needs of OCC and development of application(s) to ensure real time feedback and integration, as well as develop training material creation and dissemination (where support is needed).
  • Develop, maintain, and enhance processes and procedures for the OCC by responding to all events requiring an OCC evaluation and improvement, including 8-step and Root Cause Analyses (RCA).
  • Works with maintenance to troubleshoot problems and ascertain probable causes. Analyze and act on issues impacting the overall profitability of OCC/OT/AO.
  • Engage with service staff to review operational responsibilities, maintain appropriate accountabilities between the OCC and site staff, and reinforce strong communications between the OCC and field service staff.
  • Develop and maintain advanced technical reports on asset performance, incorporating input from field experiences and reliability assessments.
  • Gathering operational data for data historians for reporting.
  • Analyze and interpret historical trends of the above information to identify emerging technical issues.
  • Create predictive maintenance recommendations based on technical analysis.
  • Monitor and report on key technical performance indicators.
  • Develop technical dashboards for operational visibility.
  • Provide weekly technical performance briefings to management and effectively communicate findings and recommendations.
  • Lead technical discussions with OEMs and service providers.
  • Evaluate and recommend technical improvements to monitoring systems.
  • Support implementation of new technologies in the OCC.
  • Participate in technical reviews of new renewable projects.
  • Maintain and update critical technical documentation.
  • Other duties as assigned.
