The Real Estate Accountant is responsible for the accounting and financial reporting of a portfolio of commercial real estate assets. The Western Region portfolio spans from British Columbia east to Manitoba and includes office, retail, industrial, and ground‑lease assets. Real Estate Accountants work closely and collaboratively with property management, asset management, leasing, development, and finance teams.

Requirements

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in Accounting
  • Minimum three years full-cycle accounting experience, commercial real estate accounting experience preferable
  • Understanding of full cycle accounting, including month-end accruals, budgeting, forecasting, and year end audits
  • Contract/lease interpretation skills
  • Advanced Excel skills – adept with complex formulas, Pivot Tables, and macro construction and maintenance
  • Highly proficient in Teams, Outlook, and Word
  • Detail‑oriented and analytical self‑starter with strong problem‑solving skills and a curiosity for investigating anomalies
  • Able to thrive in a fast‑paced, process‑driven, deadline‑oriented environment
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to build effective working relationships

Nice To Haves

  • Accounting designation or enrolment in post-degree/diploma accounting designation program preferred

Responsibilities

  • Monthly maintenance of the general ledger.
  • Monthly calculation of cash calls and distributions, where required.
  • Co-ordinate and prepare full year estimates and annual operating budgets.
  • Prepare year-end working paper files for external audits, where required.
  • Calculate and process final recovery invoices.
  • Complete and distribute reports, include client reporting and external appraisal packages.
  • Review tenant lease maintenance, including operating charges, updating future year prebills, and future year rental payment schedules.
  • Review and approve monthly rent roll billing reports and monthly percentage rent billings.
