About The Position

This role involves the safe and efficient collection of samples for testing aggregates, concrete, and asphalt materials. The technician will perform sampling, testing, and reporting procedures according to established protocols, accurately recording test results. Responsibilities include performing calculations, providing documentation, communicating data, and maintaining daily records of test results. The technician will prepare daily reports, submit results to supervisors, and advise them of any unusual or non-conforming test results. Ensuring work meets department standards, participating in continuous improvement, observing best practices, and troubleshooting root cause failures are key aspects of the role. The technician will also verify outside laboratory results and maintain records of test data, product quality, and defective materials, utilizing Lastrada software for the aggregate/asphalt division.

Requirements

  • Familiarity with industry standards and specifications.
  • Knowledge of both ready-mix and asphalt manufacturing design, processes, and equipment.
  • Valid Driver's License with acceptable driving record.
  • Three (3) years of laboratory testing experience in ready-mix concrete and construction aggregate properties.
  • One (1) year of asphalt testing experience.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instruction and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with personal computer and software packages.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and organize and to work independently.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Availability to work at any given time on any given day.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree preferred
  • TXDOT level 1A HMA and AGG 101 certification or other DOT equivalent such as TTCP Asphalt or Aggregate certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure work performed meets department standards.
  • Participate in continuous improvement system.
  • Observe and promote best practices, good time management.
  • Troubleshoot/analyze root cause failure.
  • Verify outside construction materials testing laboratory results.
  • Maintain accurate, timely records of test data, product quality, and defective materials.
  • Use Lastrada as the main software for the lab on the aggregate/asphalt division.
