About The Position

Reading Corps Reading Tutors serve at local schools, helping students improve their reading skills through proven activities and ongoing coaching. On each school day, tutors work with pairs of students for 20-minute reading-practice sessions, then help students return to their classrooms and collect the next pair until all assigned students have been served. Tutors encourage students as they build reading skills and confidence. Positions are available for the 2026–27 school year and run January 2026 through June 2027. The full-time schedule is 35 hours per week, with fewer hours during weeks with holidays or school release days; part-time positions of 20 hours per week are also available. Hours are during the day and correspond with school start and end times, Monday through Friday. AmeriCorps members have a total service-hour commitment for the program year; most hours are completed through regular site-based service, and members work with program staff to plan their schedules. Approved service or training outside the school day may occasionally be needed.
