Reading Tutor

Ampact•Macon, GA

About The Position

Reading Corps is hiring tutors to support students at local schools and help them improve their reading skills. Tutors receive training to deliver proven activities and ongoing coaching. Each school day, tutors work with pairs of students for 20 minutes of reading practice, help them return to their classrooms, and then move on to the next pair until all assigned students have been served. Tutors encourage students as they build reading skills and confidence. The position is for the 2026–27 school year, with service scheduled from January 2027 through May 2027. Full-time positions are 37.5 hours per week, with fewer hours during weeks that include holidays or school release days. Part-time positions of 27.5 hours per week are also available. Hours are during the day and correspond with school start and end times, Monday through Friday, with no weekends. Tutors have time off on holidays and school release days. AmeriCorps members have a total service-hour commitment for the program year; most hours are completed through regular site-based service, and members work with program staff to plan schedules. Approved service or training may occasionally take place outside the school day. Full-time AmeriCorps members receive a paycheck (stipend) every two weeks at $17.50 per hour served. Benefits include individual health insurance with the monthly premium fully covered, child care assistance based on family size and income, a member assistance program, and education benefits. Education benefits include up to $1,956.35 for college tuition or student loans (tutors age 55 and older may transfer the award to a qualified family member), federal student loan forbearance and interest repayment, and time accrual toward the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program. Reading Corps is powered by AmeriCorps members and administered by Ampact, a nonprofit organization. The program is fueled by research from ServeMinnesota’s National Science + Service Collaborative. Ampact prohibits discrimination and harassment on the listed protected grounds and provides reasonable accommodation upon request.
