About The Position

Students who read have the power to succeed, and we’re on a mission to make sure every student is a strong reader! Join Reading Corps as a Teacher in Training and you’ll spend your days at a local school helping students improve their skills while simultaneously pursuing your master's degree in education through the University of Minnesota. With hands-on support and coaching, we’ll prepare you to become a great educator and help kids succeed! Every school day you’ll see pairs of students for 20 minutes of reading practice. You’ll also complete 36 hours of university coursework, field experience, and student teaching over the course of two years. This position is made possible through a partnership between the University of Minnesota’s Grow Your Own Teacher Program and Reading Corps. Any information you provide on this application and throughout the interview and selection process will be shared with both organizations.

Requirements

• Enrolled in the University of Minnesota Grow Your Own Teacher Program
• Dependable and hav a history of good attendance
• Able to follow instructions and make improvements based on feedback
• Proficient in basic computer skills (like email and navigating online)
• Fluent in English for speakng, reading, and writing
• 18 years of age or older with a bachelor's degree
• A citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident of the United States
• Able to succesfully complete a background check

Responsibilities

• Be a caring adult who's focused on helping students thrive
• Lead tutoring sessions and follow a schedule to ensure students receive support
• Track student progress and meet regularly with the school's on-site coach
• Conduct skill assessments and enter student scores into data software
• Commit to your own growth through coaching and training
• Share your experience with the community
