About The Position

We are seeking a highly motivated, student-centered educator to serve as a Reading Specialist at Mountain View Middle School. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong literacy instructional practices, the ability to build positive relationships with middle school learners, and a commitment to collaboration within a team-based environment. A valid and active Pennsylvania Reading Specialist Certificate (K-12) is required. Previous experience working with upper elementary or middle school students in reading intervention, literacy instruction, or MTSS support is preferred. Candidates should possess a strong understanding of adolescent literacy development, data informed decision making, reading intervention strategies, and the academic, social, and emotional needs of middle school students. The ideal candidate values relationship-building, consistency, and high expectations while helping students grow into confident, capable learners. Willingness to work collaboratively as part of a grade-level and intervention team is essential.

Requirements

  • A valid and active Pennsylvania Reading Specialist Certificate (K-12) is required.
  • Required Clearances Upon Hire: PA Criminal Record Check (within 1 year), PA Child Abuse Clearance (within 1 year), FBI Fingerprint Clearance (within 1 year), TB Test (within 3 months), Physical (if applicable, within 1 year)

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience working with upper elementary or middle school students in reading intervention, literacy instruction, or MTSS support is preferred.
  • Candidates should possess a strong understanding of adolescent literacy development, data informed decision making, reading intervention strategies, and the academic, social, and emotional needs of middle school students.
  • Experience or training in: Differentiated instruction, Data-driven instruction and progress monitoring, MTSS/intervention frameworks, Collaborative and student-centered learning practices, Inclusion and support for diverse learners, Literacy assessment and intervention strategies, Educational technology and instructional tools, Process writing and integrated literacy instruction.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver targeted literacy instruction and intervention based on student data
  • Develop and implement flexible instructional groups to meet diverse learner needs
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers, counselors, interventionists, and support staff
  • Utilize assessment data to monitor progress and inform instructional decisions
  • Support students in developing foundational reading, comprehension, vocabulary, and writing skills
  • Create a positive, structured, and engaging learning environment
  • Communicate effectively with students, families, and staff
