About The Position

The primary goal of this position is to empower students with proficient reading skills, which are crucial for their academic growth and future success. This role involves utilizing district procedures to screen, assess, and identify students with characteristics of dyslexia, determining appropriate interventions, and providing high-quality, customized intervention using district-identified dyslexia programs. The Reading Teacher will also provide interventions for other at-risk students, progress monitor students individually, and communicate regularly with parents, teachers, and staff about student progress. The position requires attending additional training and working with district dyslexia specialists to fulfill job requirements, including screenings, assessments, interventions, and documentation related to dyslexia law. The role also includes other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Requirements

  • Meet Arkansas K-6 teaching (code 253) licensure requirements.
  • At least three years of classroom teaching experience in literacy.
  • RISE Training completed.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the Science of Reading according to Arkansas’ educational standards.
  • Coursework or professional development in literacy/dyslexia emphasizing the science of reading.
  • Demonstrate leadership abilities, flexible thinking, and the ability to work well and collaborate.
  • Willingness to attend applicable training, some of which may occur during the summer or off-contract hours.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s in Reading, Curriculum, or Special Education.
  • Certification in Dyslexia Therapy or Wilson Reading Dyslexia Practitioner completed or in progress.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize district procedures to screen, assess, and identify students with characteristics of dyslexia.
  • Determine appropriate interventions for students with reading difficulties.
  • Provide high-quality, customized intervention to students identified as exhibiting characteristics associated with dyslexia using district-identified dyslexia programs.
  • Provide interventions for other at-risk students, as identified by district protocols.
  • Progress monitor students individually weekly to determine their response to intervention and make instructional adjustments as needed.
  • Identify students not making adequate progress and refer them for additional testing/services as needed.
  • Regularly communicate with parents, teachers, and building-level and district-level staff about the progress of individual students receiving reading intervention services.
  • Attend additional training to maintain proficiency in district-adopted programs for dyslexia and/or reading interventions.
  • Work with district dyslexia specialists to complete job requirements, including screenings, assessments, interventions, and documentation required by dyslexia law.
  • Assume other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
  • Maintain emotional control under stress.
  • Attend meetings and perform duties as assigned by administrators or supervisors.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation.
