About The Position

The Reading Teacher / ELA Teacher will provide supplemental literacy and dyslexia intervention related instruction to enable students to master reading and writing skills appropriate to their age, grade level, and individual capacity. This is a nine and one-fourth (9.25) month contract position (190 days) with a benefits package. The precise placement within the salary range will be determined based on experience and LRSD’s salary placement guidelines. This is an EXEMPT position.

Requirements

  • Valid Arkansas teaching certificate in Elementary Education P-4 or K-6, Special Education P-4 or 4-12, Reading, English or English Language Arts 7-12, or Early Childhood Education
  • Ability and willingness to utilize current reading programs with fidelity
  • Must have completed or be willing to complete training in reading intervention programs

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in education, curriculum and instruction reading preferred.
  • Experience in teaching reading/literacy instruction and/or interventions preferred.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with recent, successful experience in similar roles.
  • Completion of Science of Reading phase I preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Administer literacy and dyslexia assessments identified by the Literacy Department to identify those students in need of services and document progress throughout the year.
  • Teach daily supplemental instruction to groups of students utilizing the established instructional framework with fidelity.
  • Maintain instructional and assessment records for each student including lesson plans, progress reports, records of oral reading, attendance, and writing development.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to ensure seamless instructional support, determine when students reach grade-level expectations, and ensure students apply learned skills in the classroom.
  • Monitor progress of children who exit supplemental instruction/intervention.
  • Conduct end-of-year assessments on all students served to document growth and continued progress.
  • When possible and not in lieu of serving students, participate and facilitate school-based literacy team meetings to serve as a resource for best practices in literacy and/or dyslexia instruction.
  • Maintain and submit required data to LRSD Literacy Department on students served.
  • Participate in creating an environment conducive to the learning and growth of all children.
  • Regularly communicate student progress to parents.
  • Support district and state literacy/dyslexia initiatives and school-community partnerships to advance literacy achievement within the assigned school.
  • Manage multiple groups of students, maintain a consistent instructional schedule (minimize disruptions), and complete tasks within established time frames.
  • Perform other literacy and/or dyslexia related duties as assigned.
