About The Position

Penn's Grove Middle School is seeking a dedicated and passionate Reading Specialist to join our educational team. The ideal candidate will be committed to fostering a love for reading and improving literacy skills among our students. This full-time position requires a dynamic individual who can assess student needs, develop tailored instructional strategies, and collaborate with teachers and parents to enhance reading proficiency across all grade levels. This position will be posted for 5 days.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Education
• Valid PA reading specialist (PK-12) certification
• Proven experience as a Reading Specialist or in a similar role, preferably in a middle school setting.
• Strong understanding of reading development, instructional strategies, and assessment tools.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with students, parents, and staff.
• Ability to create a supportive and inclusive learning environment.
• Proficiency in using technology and educational software to enhance reading instruction.
• Commitment to continuous professional development and staying informed about literacy best practices.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple responsibilities effectively.

Responsibilities

• Conduct assessments to identify students' reading levels and literacy needs.
• Develop and implement individualized and group reading intervention plans.
• Collaborate with classroom teachers to integrate effective reading strategies into the curriculum.
• Provide professional development and support to teachers on best practices in reading instruction.
• Monitor and evaluate student progress through regular assessments and adjust instruction as needed.
• Create a positive and engaging learning environment that encourages a love for reading.
• Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress and strategies for supporting reading at home.
• Stay current with research and trends in literacy education and apply this knowledge to improve instructional practices.
• Participate in school committees and contribute to the overall mission of Penn's Grove Middle School.
• Support students in developing critical thinking and comprehension skills through various reading materials and activities.
