About The Position

The Reading Specialist at The Pinnacle School helps students with language-based learning differences develop literacy skills and confidence. Working with a collaborative team of educators and specialists, the specialist delivers individualized, evidence-based instruction to help students reach their potential. The role supports students with complex learning challenges through tailored academics, therapeutic support, and collaborative problem solving.

Requirements

• Master’s degree.
• Valid Connecticut State 102 Remedial Reading and Remedial Language Arts certification or eligibility for Connecticut licensure.
• Training or certification in Orton-Gillingham, Wilson Reading System, or another structured multi-sensory literacy approach.
• At least two years of experience working with students with special education needs and language-based learning differences.
• Experience with IEP implementation, progress monitoring, and educational data collection.
• Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills, and a commitment to helping students of all abilities succeed.

Responsibilities

• Deliver individualized and small-group reading interventions using evidence-based, multi-sensory instructional practices.
• Monitor student progress, analyze data, and adjust instruction to support growth toward IEP goals.
• Collaborate with teachers, therapists, families, and school districts to coordinate student support.
• Develop engaging lessons tailored to each student's strengths, challenges, and learning profile.
• Maintain accurate documentation, participate in team meetings, and contribute to a positive learning environment.
