About The Position

This position provides remedial instruction to students who are experiencing educational difficulties in participating nonpublic schools. The primary work location for the 2026-27 school year will be Our Lady of Lourdes Regional School in Coal Township, PA, and will require travel to various nonpublic schools within Northumberland, Union, Montour, Snyder, and Columbia Counties. This role reports directly to the Director of Non-Public Education and Title Programs.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in education
  • A valid Pennsylvania Reading Specialist K-12 certification
  • Computer experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook email, internet browsers, and artificial intelligence (AI).
  • The ability to enhance AI skills will be required.
  • The ability to work collaboratively and professionally with other staff, nonpublic school personnel, and students.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate and work effectively with colleagues, co-workers, community agency personnel, and students/trainees.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Requires the ability to develop and maintain positive, collaborative relationships with tact and diplomacy, and to remain calm in unpredictable situations.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding education programs, students and parents at all times, adhering to the Federal Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) requirements to protect staff and student data.
  • Current, approved Act 34 (PA State Police), Act 151 (PA Child Abuse Registry) and Act 114-FBI Fingerprint clearances are required and must be renewed at appropriate, specific intervals pursuant to Act 153 of 2014 (revised Act 15 of 2015).
  • Current, approved Act 126 Mandated Reporter Training certificate showing completion of a minimum of three (3) hours of training every five (5) years.
  • Maintain PDE certification requirements of Act 48 hours for the Professional Education Records Management System (PERMS) in specific five (5)- year periods.
  • Attend conferences, workshops, and training identified as important to the operation of an effective instructional program and enhance professional development.
  • Stay current with new educational initiatives in the field.
  • Participate in the eight (8) days of professional development as scheduled with the immediate supervisor.
  • Stay up to date with computer software.
  • Sedentary: Able to sit for extended periods of time, occasional walking, standing (as necessary) and able to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
  • Dexterity: Finger movements (computer keyboard, calculator), eye-hand coordination (office equipment, etc.).
  • Audio-Visual Requirements: Within normal range with or without correction.
  • Can move throughout all buildings, floors and grounds.
  • Considerable bending, lifting, reaching and stretching are required because of storage arrangements in trailers/mobile units.
  • Worksite Environment: Primarily indoors, in an office setting, with occasional exposure to outdoor elements/climate during the day.
  • Mental demands: Steady response to unpredictable situations, ability to remain calm and productive during stressful situations.
  • Demonstrates independent judgment, discretion and is able to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Ability to travel to various work site locations and meetings as needed.
  • The ability to relocate between schools several times during the school day is essential.
  • Ability to monitor and occasionally troubleshoot problems associated with instruction in a trailer or mobile unit (i.e., attaching power cords to the school power source is necessary).
  • Ability to shovel snow required.
  • Ability to operate existing mobile classrooms.
  • The ability to work in a constant state of alertness and a safe manner.
  • Full-time exempt position conforms to the negotiated requirements between the CSIU board and teachers’ bargaining unit following 188 days school year schedule.
  • Attendance at work is a requirement of this position; any and all absences must be approved by the immediate supervisor.
  • All property, including intellectual property, materials, equipment or actual products and services developed or accrued as part of the job duties and responsibilities listed above, is the property of the CSIU.
  • It may not be used for personal profit or gain and will be relinquished to the CSIU upon termination of employment from the CSIU.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience as a classroom teacher is preferred.
  • Proficiency in utilizing vetted artificial intelligence (AI) is preferred.
  • The exploration and utilization of new AI tools or technologies is subject to review and approval.

Responsibilities

  • Administer benchmark and diagnostic tests and/or use curriculum-based assessment with students to determine program eligibility and/or withdrawal from the program.
  • Maintain records on each participating student.
  • Coordinate instructional activities with the school administrator, classroom teacher, related staff and/or parents.
  • Plan and implement academic intervention support to students in reading and math.
  • Regularly update the nonpublic database to include services provided to each student and to monitor student outcomes.
  • Provide pre- and post-testing of students to determine the appropriate type and level of services needed.
  • Serve as CSIU liaison with nonpublic schools to which assigned.
  • Provide periodic written reports to parents.
  • Share materials with schools and other Act 89 staff.
  • Coordinate services with the Equitable Participation coordinator and district Title I staff.
  • Submit all required student data and paperwork in a timely fashion (i.e., monthly reports, travel vouchers, requisitions, schedules).
  • Monitor the condition of the trailers/mobile units used as workspaces and report any maintenance concerns to the appropriate personnel.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned by immediate supervisor or designee.
