About The Position

The Reading Specialist - Instructional Coach will play a key role in implementing the District and building reading improvement plans. This position involves communicating with administrators, staff, students, and parents, utilizing student assessment data to create and document individual reading improvement plans, and collaborating with classroom teachers to enhance reading performance for all students. The role also includes assisting administrators with data review, recommending professional development, identifying parent resource needs, coordinating parent education, and contributing to budgetary planning for reading improvement initiatives. Additionally, the position supports curriculum development, assessment strategies, instructional technology integration, and serves as a resource for principals in curriculum, assessment, and instruction, while staying current with best practices and research in education.

Requirements

  • Must hold proper state teaching certification.
  • Reading endorsement required or Dyslexia certificate.

Nice To Haves

  • Two years of successful teaching experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Communicate and implement the District and building reading improvement plans with administrators, staff members, students and parents.
  • Use individual student assessment data to construct appropriate reading improvement plans for qualifying individual students.
  • Document the progress of individual student reading improvement plans.
  • Maintain an accurate log of student and staff support services.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to identify and implement specific strategies to improve the reading performance of all students.
  • Assist administrators in reviewing building assessment data to recommend and support grade level reading improvement goals.
  • Assist administrators in reviewing assessment data to recommend and assist in building level professional development which support identified reading improvement goals.
  • Identify the resource and educational needs of the school’s parents to support reading improvement.
  • Coordinate parent education reading improvement activities.
  • Work with building principal to plan budgetary projections regarding the school’s reading improvement plans.
  • Provide professional development training and continued support.
  • Support curriculum development implementation that may include ensuring internal and external alignment, developing curriculum maps & identifying support resources.
  • Work with building administrators and teachers in using data to improve individual and school performance.
  • Work with teachers on developing and implementing effective assessments, both across the district and within classrooms.
  • Model and support teachers in the implementation of all instructional strategies.
  • Assist teachers in integrating technology into classroom instruction.
  • Promote the sharing of effective teaching practices among staff throughout the district.
  • Serve as a resource to principals in the areas of curriculum, assessment and instruction.
  • Remain current with best practices and current research on teaching and learning.
  • Support the total school program by observing curricular and extra-curricular student activities.
  • Exhibit dependability and punctuality in assigned duties.
  • Display appropriate personal and professional traits that exhibit a positive role model for students.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Instruction and Educational Programs to review and implement program improvements to support the District’s reading improvement goals.
  • Assist administrators in the coordination of standardized testing.
