About The Position

To help students learn subject matter and skills in the subject areas required with focus on reading. The interventionist is responsible for planning, delivering and evaluating instruction based upon specific goals and objectives established by Hanover County Public Schools and based on the Virginia Standards of Learning.

Requirements

  • Comprehensive knowledge of modern practices, techniques, and methods for teaching adult students
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the principles of educational testing and principles and methods of remedial education
  • Comprehensive knowledge of effective means of supervision and instruction as applied to the work of Instructional Assistants
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the needs and requirements of working with students with disabilities
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the principles and methods of educational research
  • Ability to apply modern methods and principles of education to pupils functioning at the adult education level
  • Ability to maintain an interest in the positive improvement and development of adults of normal and/or impaired learning ability
  • Ability to maintain proper discipline
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and students
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution
  • Excellent communication and record keeping skills
  • Equivalent combination of experience and training which would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities to be effective in this position

  • Master's Degree from accredited institution
  • Courses in professional education or teacher’s license

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates mastery of content area
  • Prepares daily instruction and activities using the division’s curriculum to assigned study materials and shows evidence of preparation upon request of the supervisors
  • Assesses students' learning on an ongoing basis and alters instruction to meet group/individual needs
  • Develops summative tests of students' learning and uses results for further student instruction, grading, and placement
  • Develops and maintains a favorable psychological and physical environment that is conducive to effective learning
  • Maintains order and encourages students to set and maintain high standards of classroom behavior within the classroom setting in accordance with division guidelines regarding pupil behavior management
  • Selects and utilizes materials appropriate to the students' instructional levels
  • Organizes learning activities to achieve specific concepts
  • Attends and participates in district level in-service training programs, faculty and department meetings, as required
  • Establishes friendly and cooperative relationships between the home and the school
  • Establishes and maintains cooperative professional relations with others
  • Demonstrates commitment to improving professional competence
  • Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities
  • Maintains accurate, complete and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulations
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the administration in accordance with the school division’s policies and practices
