About The Position

Assists the Dentist at chair side in the concept of four-handed dentistry and prepares patients in a manner that will instill confidence in the staff and services of the Dental Division. This role involves a wide variety of patient care activities, including preparing equipment, instruments, materials, and operatories, as well as performing routine maintenance and restocking. The position also requires operating X-ray equipment, developing and mounting X-rays, and maintaining infection control standards. Additionally, the RDA will manage patient flow, explain treatment recommendations, and maintain inventory of supplies. The role also emphasizes professional growth and participation in meetings and committees.

Requirements

  • 1 year of experience as dental assistant with Dentrix workflow.
  • Post High School Vocational/ Specialized Training.
  • Current RDA License.
  • Radiation Safety Certificate.
  • Coronal Polish Certificate.
  • CPR/BLS certificate.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Ability to put patients at ease and give clear understandable directions.
  • Four handed dentistry, full scope dentistry procedures and oral radiographic services.
  • Computer skills involving word processing, email and dental management programs such as EPIC are preferable.
  • Manual dexterity and mobility, including ability to keep hand and arm steady, quickly move hand, grasp and manipulate objects, and demonstrate exceptional hand-eye coordination, control, and finger dexterity.
  • Pre-employment requirements include I-9, physical, positive background and reference check results, complete application, new hire orientation, pre-employment PPDs.
  • Compliance with all mandated vaccinations and all boosters is a term and condition of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Takes and records patient intake information such as blood pressure, pulse, tobacco status, medical alert review, and medication list.
  • Reviews and records clinical notes, treatment results, treatment planning, consents, referrals, and other pertinent documentation on patient records with accuracy.
  • Prepares reports and written documentation, including patient records, as required by department, company, state, and federal agencies.
  • Assists chairside in four-handed dentistry, including fabrication, cementing, and adjustment of temporary crowns, coronal polishing, placement and removal of temporary sedative fillings, impressions, applying non-aerosol and topical agents, removing post-extraction and periodontal dressings, assisting in the administration of nitrous oxide, holding anterior matrices, and placing and removing rubber dams.
  • Maintains a smooth patient flow from reception to operatories and coordinates activities of operatories.
  • Complies with established OSHA policies and procedures, quality assurance program, safety, environmental, and infection control standards.
  • Ensures infection control techniques are administered in accordance with department policy.
  • Reviews patient records for accuracy and completeness and explains treatment recommended by the dentist.
  • Prepares equipment, instruments, materials, and operatories.
  • Performs routine maintenance of equipment and restocking of materials.
  • Operates X-ray equipment, develops and mounts X-rays.
  • Maintains and submits orders to ensure an adequate inventory of forms, clerical supplies, and equipment.
  • Maintains privacy of patient, employee, and volunteer information and complies with HIPAA regulations.
  • Enhances professional growth and development through educational programs, literature, and meetings.
  • Attends meetings and participates in committees as directed.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
