About The Position

Assists the Dentist at chair side in the concept of four-handed dentistry and prepares patients in a manner that will instill confidence in the staff and services of the Dental Division. This role involves a wide variety of patient care activities, including preparing equipment, instruments, and operatories, performing routine maintenance, and operating X-ray equipment. The position also requires maintaining patient records, explaining treatment plans, and ensuring compliance with safety and infection control standards.

Requirements

  • 1 year of experience as a dental assistant with Dentrix workflow.
  • Post High School Vocational/ Specialized Training.
  • Current RDA License.
  • Radiation Safety Certificate.
  • Coronal Polish Certificate.
  • CPR/BLS certificate.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Ability to put patients at ease and give clear, understandable directions.
  • Proficiency in four-handed dentistry, full scope dentistry procedures, and oral radiographic services.
  • Computer skills including word processing and email.
  • Manual dexterity and mobility, including steady hands, quick hand movement, grasping, manipulation of objects, hand-eye coordination, control, and finger dexterity.
  • Ability to work with blood-borne pathogens and complete yearly OSHA training.
  • Pre-employment requirements: I-9, physical, positive background and reference check results, complete application, new hire orientation, pre-employment PPDs.
  • Compliance with all mandated vaccinations and boosters.

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish).
  • Computer skills involving dental management programs such as EPIC.

Responsibilities

  • Takes and records patient vital signs, reviews medical history, and documents medications.
  • Reviews and records clinical notes, treatment results, treatment planning, consents, referrals, and other pertinent patient record documentation with accuracy.
  • Prepares reports and written documentation, including patient records, as required by various agencies.
  • Assists chairside in four-handed dentistry, including fabricating and cementing temporary crowns, coronal polishing, placing and removing temporary sedative fillings, taking impressions, applying topical agents, removing dressings, assisting with nitrous oxide administration, holding matrices, and placing and removing rubber dams.
  • Manages patient flow from reception to operatories, coordinating activities through efficient use of time, resources, and patient needs.
  • Complies with OSHA policies and procedures, quality assurance, safety, environmental, and infection control standards.
  • Reviews patient records for accuracy and completeness, and explains recommended treatments to patients.
  • Prepares and maintains operatories with equipment, instruments, and materials, and performs routine equipment maintenance.
  • Operates X-ray equipment, develops and mounts X-rays.
  • Maintains departmental policies, procedures, quality assurance, safety, environmental, and infection control standards.
  • Manages inventory of forms, clerical supplies, and equipment.
  • Maintains privacy of patient, employee, and volunteer information and complies with HIPAA regulations.
  • Enhances professional growth through educational programs and participation in meetings.
  • Attends meetings and participates in committees as directed.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
