About The Position

Sentara Leigh Hospital is hiring an RCIS for the Cath Lab located in Norfolk, Virginia. This is a full-time position with 36 hours per week, consisting of four 9-hour shifts, and includes some on-call responsibilities. The Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist is a healthcare professional who assists in cardiac and vascular procedures under the direction of a qualified physician, utilizing specialized equipment to accurately diagnose and/or optimally treat heart conditions while ensuring patient safety and comfort. Responsibilities include performing and reviewing baseline patient assessments, evaluating patient responses to procedures and medications, providing patient care and administering drugs as directed, and acting as a first assistant during diagnostic and therapeutic catheterizations. The role involves working with a variety of procedures such as diagnostic caths, interventions, CTOs, Afib Watchman device, Impella, intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP), TAVR Heart Valve Replacement, Mitra clips, Left/Right heart caths, biopsies, cardioversions, Transesophageal echo, and loop recorder implants. The department features five labs and a Hybrid OR.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a diploma, associate, or baccalaureate academic program in health science (includes, but not limited to, cardiovascular technology, ultrasound, radiologic technology, respiratory therapy, or nursing).
  • One-year related experience required.
  • BLS certification required.
  • RCIS or RCES certification required.
  • ACLS will be required within 90 days of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in the performance of cardiac and vascular procedures under the direction of a qualified physician.
  • Utilizes specialized equipment for accurate diagnosis and/or optimal treatment of heart conditions.
  • Ensures patient safety and comfort during procedures.
  • Performs and reviews baseline patient assessments.
  • Evaluates patient response to diagnostic or interventional maneuvers and medications during cardiac catheterization laboratory procedures.
  • Provides patient care and drug administration commonly used in the cardiac catheterization laboratory as requested and under the direction of a qualified physician.
  • Acts as a first assistant during diagnostic and therapeutic catheterization.
  • Works with procedures including diagnostic caths, interventions, CTOs, Afib Watchman device, Impella, intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP), TAVR Heart Valve Replacement, Mitra clips, Left/Right heart caths, biopsies, cardioversions, Transesophageal echo, and loop recorder implants.
