About The Position

The Raw Receiving Manager is responsible for overseeing the receiving and unloading of all raw potatoes, ensuring proper grading and taring, rejecting non-compliant potatoes, inspecting for foreign material, and sorting potatoes by variety, reducing sugars, and solid content to meet production needs. This role also involves maintaining the cleanliness of the receiving area, ensuring machinery and equipment are in good repair, communicating with procurement and plant management, managing receiving personnel, and fostering good supplier relations. A key aspect of this position is ensuring a safe working environment and that all personnel adhere to safety policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Ability to read and write legibly and in English.
  • Read and understand a graduated thermometer.
  • Knowledge of weights, measures, scales and scale calibration.
  • Perform basic math calculations.
  • Learns testing methods and is able to perform standard dirt, rot, green tare, and specific gravity testing on incoming raw potatoes.
  • Must be able to closely follow operational instructions and work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to communicate effectively across all levels of staff and management.
  • Good attention to detail, ability to reason and make decisions.
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Must be available to work weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the receiving and unloading of all raw potatoes.
  • Ensure all potatoes received are properly graded/tared.
  • Reject any potatoes not complying with contract/established terms.
  • Inspect all loads for foreign material.
  • Sort and unload potatoes into bays by variety, reducing sugars, solid content, etc. to best meet production needs.
  • Keep the raw receiving area clean.
  • Keep the raw receiving machinery and equipment in good repair.
  • Communicate with the Raw Procurement Manager and Plant Manager/Shift Managers on any raw potato matters.
  • Manage the Raw Receiving personnel.
  • Maintain good relations with suppliers.
  • Ensure the Raw Receiving area is free of safety hazards.
  • Ensure raw receiving personnel are trained in and adhere to all personal and product safety policies, programs, regulations, and procedures.
  • Supervise raw receiving personnel to ensure all maintenance, sanitation, receiving/unloading, and grading of raw potatoes are performed to expectations.
  • Responsible for scheduling, training, hiring, disciplining, terminating, and evaluating all raw receiving personnel.
  • Responsible for approving time cards and ensuring their accuracy and timely submission to HR.
  • Communicate with Raw Procurement Manager and the Plant/Production/Shift Manager to ensure raw product is available for scheduled production needs.
  • Responsible for the accurate grading and taring of all incoming raw potato loads.
  • Responsible for insuring all loads meet contract/established terms and for rejecting any loads that do not meet these terms.
  • Responsible for maintaining accurate and complete records for all grading and taring.
  • Responsible for the accurate and timely completion of all reducing sugar testing and for getting samples to the in-house QA department for testing.
  • Verify all product is sorted by sugar content, potato variety, and solids.
  • Record sugar levels received from each supplier and ensure samples are provided to the Lab for definite sugar level testing.
  • Check all solids for every supplier a minimum of once a day by placing 8 pounds of product in water and measuring sinkage.
  • Oversee the rotation of receiving bays to always ensure the best use of raw product.
  • Ensure all raw receiving personnel are trained in and adhere to all personal and food safety policies, programs, regulations, and procedures.
  • Complete incident and accident reports as necessary; assist with accident investigations and hazard analyses.
  • Clean all receiving areas and waste pit, placing waste in the proper areas in a neat and orderly manner.
  • Ensure the area of responsibility is kept in audit-ready condition at all times.
  • Schedule and assign clean-up duties.
  • Constantly monitor areas for any hazards or concerns that may affect the safety of product and people.
  • Responsible for ensuring the Raw Receiving machinery and equipment are maintained in good repair with minimal downtime.
  • Communicate daily with receiving maintenance personnel for repairs needed or repairs made, and write work orders for future repairs.
  • Plan for needed maintenance to occur during scheduled shut-downs.
  • Assist in maintenance jobs, especially during plant down times.
  • Ensure all employees who report directly to the Raw Receiving Manager are trained in and knowledgeable of all Company food safety and product quality policies, programs, and procedures.
  • Supervise employee activities and all necessary and related documentation and record keeping/paperwork.
  • Complete all other responsibilities as necessary and assigned.
