About The Position

The Steam RATT Lead provides expert assessments of steam propulsion plants, engineering operations, and maintenance programs aboard amphibious ships. Support is primarily based in San Diego, CA, with occasional travel to Navy fleet concentration areas including Everett, WA; Pearl Harbor, HI; Sasebo, Japan; Yokosuka, Japan; and Singapore, as well as other customer locations as required. Sayres Defense supports critical U.S. Navy shipbuilding and maritime programs, delivering acquisition, engineering, logistics, and waterfront expertise that strengthens fleet readiness and lifecycle sustainment. Requirements

  • Minimum 15 years of Navy engineering supervisory experience.
  • Extensive EOOW, PPWO, Chief Engineer, or equivalent steam plant experience.
  • Strong knowledge of Navy steam propulsion systems and maintenance processes.
  • Experience supporting TYCOM, ISIC, ATG, or maintenance organizations.
  • SECRET clearance, verifiable in DISS.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • 25+ years highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Lead steam propulsion readiness assessments.
  • Evaluate plant operations, maintenance execution, and engineering performance.
  • Identify readiness risks and corrective actions.
  • Provide technical guidance to ship leadership and Government stakeholders.
  • Prepare reports and readiness recommendations.
