Applicants must reside within the defined local commuting area—75 miles or 90 minutes from the applicable announcement location—and provide proof of residency. The position may be filled at multiple grade levels, with duties developmental below the full performance level. The position plans and conducts assessments of grazing areas and rangeland conditions, collecting and analyzing scientific data to evaluate allotments. It also contributes rangeland expertise to interdisciplinary reports, environmental assessments, and protective stipulations, and plans range improvements, vegetation treatments, permit renewals, and other actions consistent with program goals and multiple-use requirements. Employment is subject to U.S. citizenship or national status, a background investigation, E-Verify, Selective Service registration where applicable, direct-deposit participation, and maintaining a valid driver’s license. Employees must serve a one-year probationary period. The posting also describes restrictions concerning real-estate licenses and financial interests in firms with interests in Federal lands, as well as additional Department of the Interior ethics restrictions. A recruitment incentive may be authorized for a newly selected employee.
