About The Position

The Range Safety Officer (RSO) Lead is responsible for the safety of all Frontier Justice clients and staff. This position requires extensive knowledge of firearms of all types and may be called upon to assist shooters using the range lanes. The primary responsibility of the RSO Lead is to organize, conduct, and supervise safe shooting activities and range operations for all shooters. This role is also responsible for the care and maintenance of the range and related equipment, as well as providing orientation, training, scheduling, and support for all Range Safety Officers. This is a Full-Time position and requires open availability to work varying shifts, including weekends and holidays, and the ability to fill in for an RSO who calls out, when necessary.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent, college degree/hours preferred.
  • 21 years of age or older
  • Comfortable working around firearms with a strong commitment to enforcing safety practices
  • Minimum of NRA/USCCA Certified Pistol Instructor Certification
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to remain composed and courteous in a high-traffic, high-responsibility environment
  • Must be able to physically audit and inspect all operations.
  • Ability to individually lift weights up to 35 lbs. regularly or perform a team lift for anything over.
  • Ability to stand on your feet for extended periods on hard concrete floors.
  • Willingness to work non-traditional hours (evenings/weekends/holidays)
  • Ability to obtain HAZMAT certification within a timeframe determined by Frontier Justice.
  • Ability to complete professional incident reports, operational logs, training documentation, inspection records, and compliance related reporting accurately and thoroughly.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferably 3-5 years firearms education and/or range safety officer duties.
  • Familiarity with federal and state firearm laws and regulations.
  • Experience with 4473 forms and firearms compliance procedures.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA aligned lead exposure mitigation and hazardous material handling practices.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor all activity on the shooting lanes at all times and actively enforce all Frontier Justice range safety rules and protocols.
  • Maintain clean, sanitary, and legally compliant range areas, including range bays, target systems, and safety equipment.
  • Deliver excellent customer service on the range and in retail through strong knowledge of range operations, technology, and point of sale systems.
  • Maintain a professional and courteous appearance and demeanor at all times, modeling appropriate conduct for the RSO team.
  • Ensure all necessary supplies are available for daily range operations, including PPE, targets, and safety documentation.
  • Train Range Safety Officers and ensure compliance with range policies, procedures, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Create, manage, and adjust Range Safety Officer schedules to ensure appropriate staffing levels for open hours, classes, events, and peak traffic periods, minimizing gaps in coverage and last minute fire drills.
  • Manage scheduling, required testing, and training for the Range Safety Officer team, including tracking certifications, renewals, and required drills.
  • Follow the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) at all times.
  • Evaluate range conditions continuously and make adjustments as needed to maintain safety, cleanliness, compliance, and operational efficiency.
  • Instruct customers on proper lane and target operation.
  • Understand and follow emergency response procedures at all times.
  • Report operational issues daily to the General Manager and/or Operations Manager as needed.
  • Support opening and closing procedures for the range, ensuring that safety, cleanliness, and compliance standards are met on every shift.
  • Assist with incident response procedures including scene stabilization, customer management, emergency coordination, and detailed incident documentation.
  • Oversee execution of daily, weekly, and periodic range cleaning and maintenance procedures in accordance with Frontier Justice environmental and safety standards.
  • Ensure proper handling, segregation, storage, labeling, and documentation of hazardous range materials including lead contaminated waste, filters, PPE, brass, and debris.
  • Monitor operational readiness and cleanliness of target systems, firing lanes, lighting, booths, backstops, PPE stations, and associated range equipment.
  • Foster collaborative and supportive relationships throughout the organization.
  • Build and maintain positive, effective relationships with external vendors, outside trainers using Frontier Justice space, and customers.
  • Serve as a go to resource and subject matter expert on range safety and operations for team members and leadership.
