About The Position

The Ranch Foreman is an on-site working supervisor responsible for the day-to-day activities at Squirrel Creek Ranch. Working hands on with the Ranch Hands to care for the livestock, exotic animals and maintain all aspects of the 2,200 acres ranch.

Requirements

  • Able to schedule and maintain all aspects of the ranch
  • Able and willing to work 7 days a week
  • Maintain permanent residency at the ranch
  • Demonstrated leadership skills or aptitude
  • Previous ranching experience
  • Bilingual (working knowledge of Spanish)
  • Dependable and trustworthy
  • Strength to lift, load, push, and pull weight up to 100 pounds.
  • Manual dexterity to operate ranch equipment.
  • Ability to safely operate power ranch equipment numerous times each day.
  • Ability to consistently bend, reach, and squat while working up to 12 hours daily.
  • Stamina to continuously stand and walk up to 12 hours a day.
  • Ability to work while exposed to indoor and outdoor weather conditions including high and low temperatures, wind, ice, humidity, rain, fog, hail, sleet, and snow.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the Ranch Hands and onsite Contractors
  • Oversee the Guest Services Coordinator
  • Daily checking of cattle and exotics, with more frequent checks during calving season.
  • Properly maintain cattle and exotics year-round, ensuring mineral and salt availability, utilizing syrup troughs in winter, keeping water troughs clean, and maintaining the ground feed program. Provide hay as necessary during winter.
  • Manage the breeding program, including exposing cows to bulls during specific months and tracking calving schedules.
  • Utilize veterinarian services for sick or injured cattle and exotics.
  • Planting and maintenance of hay grazer in spring, including irrigation, fertilization, baling, and aiming for at least two cuttings.
  • Planting and maintenance of the 'Main House' spring garden.
  • Prepare and plant oat fields in the fall, including fertilization.
  • Planting and maintenance of the 'Main House' fall garden.
  • Ensure all equipment is properly maintained, including checking fluid levels and tires before and after use.
  • Check all vehicles daily before service.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on equipment after usage.
  • Keep the equipment shed neat and orderly.
  • Care for and maintain irrigation equipment, including a thorough understanding of operation procedures.
  • Check and maintain well engines before, during, and after usage.
  • Check and maintain fences, spray fences with weed kill, and properly maintain gates.
  • Shred and maintain the air strip and frontage for appearance.
  • Shred senderos, tank areas, roads, and fence lines.
  • Utilize weed eaters for areas inaccessible to the shredder.
  • Repeat shredding program in early September for the fall season.
  • Service and maintain chute and equipment.
  • Keep pens neat and orderly.
  • Ensure all gates are in working order.
  • Keep drawers, cabinets, tack room, and feed room properly stocked and neat.
  • Train and ensure all Ranch personnel are qualified for their duties and equipment operation.
  • Maintain all necessary records in conjunction with ranch payroll.
  • Responsible for the welfare of ranch personnel, including groceries, board, and safety.
  • Maintain up-to-date records of all transactions and activities pertaining to cattle and exotics.
  • Responsible for the security of the ranch, including locking gates, preventing unauthorized use of ranch property or equipment, and ensuring the security of houses.
  • Ensure no personal cattle are authorized on the ranch and personal cattle-related enterprises are not suggested.
  • No personal use of the main house swimming pool.
  • Limit dogs to two and keep them fenced at the Foreman's home.
  • Limit personal horses to two and be responsible for their maintenance.
  • Responsible for the welfare of the owner's pets.
  • Conduct all activities with a 'safety first' mindset, use all required PPE, and participate in safety trainings.
  • Complete all assigned trainings, tasks, and surveys.
  • Report vehicular accidents and/or on-the-job injuries in accordance with protocol.
  • Possess a valid Texas Driver's License and pass a Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) check.
