About The Position

The Ramp Specialist is a member of Porter’s team and responsible for the safe and efficient oversight of Porter’s contracted ground handlers, including safety and turn performance. Identifies and eliminates barriers to reduce station-controllable delays and works cross-functionally to reduce system controllable and uncontrollable delays. Works diligently to achieve a safe and accident-free operation and raises issues of concern in a timely manner. In conjunction with Station Manager regularly engages with contracted and Porter team members to foster their commitment to Porter’s success. Constantly seeks ways to drive operational efficiency while supporting team members and passengers. Works cross-functionally to ensure team members have the necessary tools, training, processes, and resources to achieve the team’s targets and metrics. The highest value activity performed by the Airport Operations team is the Turn. To achieve the mandates above, the Ramp Specialists primary focus should be at the gate to support the Team as they execute the Turn. The Station Leadership Team’s schedule is assigned in a manner to provide seven day a week coverage with hours targeted at peak operational periods.

Requirements

  • 3-5 years airline experience on ramp.
  • Able to obtain and hold all required security clearances.
  • Able to effectively plan and manage resources, both people and time.
  • Able to work irregular hours.
  • Able to lead under pressure.
  • Ability and desire to travel including outside Canada
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Valid driver’s license and a clean driver’s abstract.
  • Ability to communicate and correspond clearly and precisely in English.

Responsibilities

  • Completes compliance checks with respect to ground handler training. Identifies and raises areas of concern to local management.
  • Ensures that the correct number of contracted staff are in place in advance of each turn and takes actions to correct if deficiencies exist.
  • Oversee ramp operations to ensure procedures are complied with and are safe.
  • Identifies and eliminates barriers that interfere with the Team’s ability to properly execute the Turn. Examples include: Ensuring the appropriate Team Members are assigned to the Turn, drawing from other areas of the Station operation if need be. Ensuring that the necessary equipment required for the Turn is available and serviceable. Ensuring cross-functional alignment between various departments to enable the Turn. Ensuring clear and on-going communication occurs between ramp and Porter
  • Ensure the safe operation of the Station, with particular emphasis on the Ramp operation. Monitor and enforce compliance with safety protocols. Advises Manager or contacts immediately when protocols are not followed.
  • Conduct audits in conjunction with Airports QA to ensure compliance with safety, reliability, service, and regulatory standards and guidelines.
  • Participates in handler meetings as required, under direction of Station Manager
  • Assists in towing of aircraft if required
  • Conducts regular after action reviews with the Team following turns to ascertain what went well and should be reinforced / repeated and the causes of turn misses so that they can be corrected for subsequent turns.
  • Reviews Tableau data as necessary. Trending causes of turn misses should be raised to the Station Manager to be addressed as part of our continuous improvement approach to operations.
  • Actively participates in Porter’s Safety Management System (SMS) including reporting hazards and incidents encountered in daily operations; understands and promotes the Company’s Safety Policy.
