About The Position

The Ram Extrusion Operator is responsible for performing all functions related to the ram extrusion process with a primary focus on safety, teamwork, and quality. This role involves operating and understanding ram extrusion principles, managing multiple equipment and processes, monitoring product specifications, and troubleshooting defects. The operator will also be responsible for material handling, production recording, equipment maintenance, and ensuring clear communication during shift changes. Flexibility in job assignments and willingness to work overtime are expected.

Requirements

  • Ability to quickly and accurately read and measure with micrometers, calipers, tape measures, protractor, feeler gauge, and weight scale.

  • Ability to record and confirm prime product, resin, and scrap across multiple extrusion lines.
  • Strong use of the Intranet to access Process Sheets, QC Documents, Work Instructions, Forms, and MSDS.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all responsibilities with safety as the first priority and proactively address safety concerns.
  • Operate and understand the principles of ram extrusion.
  • Manage multiple pieces of equipment and processes simultaneously.
  • Properly start up, shut down, set up, and tear down ram extrusion dies, including cleaning.
  • Monitor the process, identify problems (heats, rates, physical characteristics, quality defects), and ensure product meets specifications.
  • Monitor, fill, and/or exchange resin hoppers, and complete color changes using the Material Transfer System.
  • Properly record production in Movex, cut scrap, and package materials.
  • Troubleshoot product defects, process issues, and equipment malfunctions.
  • Accurately operate downstream cutting equipment and cut stock to correct lengths.
  • Package materials as necessary and properly label and identify all materials.
  • Complete all paperwork correctly and in a timely fashion.
  • Use QC Tools to accurately inspect and document inspection data.
  • Provide accurate information to the next shift during shift change.
  • Follow Nonconformance Policy when defects are observed.
  • Complete Operator PMs (Preventative Maintenance).
  • Work with Maintenance to ensure equipment is working properly and assist with tooling and equipment repairs.
  • Understand the normal operating conditions of Chillers, Material Transfer, Nitrogen, Air, Water, and Hydraulic Systems.
  • Be flexible in job assignments plant-wide and work overtime as needed.
  • Maintain good attendance.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
  • Function with an attitude of teamwork, cooperativeness, positive thinking, and responsibility at all times.
  • Show up for assigned shifts, pre-arranged coverage, and all required meetings consistently.
