Railroad Track Design - Civil Engineering Internship
About The Position
Benesch's Railroad Division is offering an exciting internship opportunity for students pursuing a career in civil engineering with a focus on railroad track design. As an intern, you will have the chance to collaborate on real-world railway and transit projects, gaining hands-on experience in design, development, and project execution. You will support senior engineers, contribute to design processes, and play an integral role in innovative transportation solutions. This position offers a hybrid work schedule with the flexibility to work from the following offices that host a Railroad-Track team: Omaha, NE; Milwaukee, WI; Naperville, IL; and Charlotte, NC. This allows you to benefit from mentorship by professionals in the office during your internship at Benesch! Benesch’s Railroad Division is made up of highly skilled rail professionals, many of whom are former employees of operating railroads. This firsthand experience working on designing and maintaining active rail systems uniquely equips our team to develop innovative solutions to a wide variety of rail projects.
Requirements
- Pursuing your BS in Civil or Construction Engineering or in a related engineering curriculum required
- Progressive experience with developing plans and specifications utilizing MicroStation.
- Strong organization and leadership skills with a track record for adhering to design budgets and schedules.
- Ability to perform complex analysis and design
- Ability to assemble a complete design package for assigned elements or projects.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the design and development of railway and transit infrastructure projects.
- Conduct engineering calculations for railway system design and analysis.
- Support the design of system layouts while coordinating with various disciplines.
- Develop task deliverables in a clear, thorough, and reviewable manner.
- Ensure tasks are completed on schedule and within the assigned budget.
- Work independently under the direction of a Project Manager.
