About The Position

Our Roadway Worker in Charge position will perform on site roadway worker protection for activities on and around live railroad tracks and are responsible for job site coordination, dispatcher/train communication and various types of On Track Safety in controlled and non-controlled track areas. This position requires routine and extensive travel across Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Texas. Periodic travel along the Southern region may also be required. Candidates must be willing and able to travel frequently, including overnight stays, in alignment with project schedules and business needs.

Requirements

  • Be certified in On Track Worker, and Operating Rules
  • Be able to complete required physical demands and/or task
  • Know how to effectively warn roadway workers of the approach of trains
  • Understand the On Track Safety training and qualification required of the roadway workers to be protected
  • Know the procedure and be proficient in the radio procedure for communicating between RWIC/EIC’s and assigned work group
  • Be proficient in performing a job briefing with all the roadway workers within their work location
  • Be able to place railroad advance warning and stop signs
  • Be able to install a railroad derail and apply locking device
  • A high school diploma or equivalent (GED)
  • Proficiency with electronic communications including email and text as well as standard office applications (i.e., Microsoft Office Suite)

Responsibilities

  • Provide the required jobsite protection on each assignment, error free and consistent with the rules; including but not limited to radio communication with train dispatchers and engineers, ensuring work groups are clear of limits during train movements, granting permission for trains and on track equipment to proceed through limits
  • Perform daily job briefings with all personnel on the job site and ensure all personnel adhere to the safety requirements of the railroad
  • Prepare and submit required electronic forms including but not limited to: a job set up form for each flagging assignment, daily work reports, invoices, and other reports as required
  • Handle and place signs, derail and other tools and equipment weighing 15 to 90 pounds, which may be necessary multiple times throughout the day
  • Actively participate in routine reoccurring safety classes and qualification training
  • Maintain a high level of communication with the RWIC supervisors and managers regarding the various assignments and schedules
  • Contribute to a positive, inclusive, and respectful workplace culture, free from behaviors that undermine morale, productivity, or organizational values
