About The Position

RailPros is seeking a Railroad Safety Flagging Academy Associate for its UP West operations. This role involves performing on-site roadway worker protection for activities on and around live railroad tracks. The associate will be responsible for job site coordination, dispatcher/train communication, and various types of On Track Safety in controlled and non-controlled track areas. Requirements

  • Be certified in On Track Worker and Operating Rules.
  • Be able to complete required physical demands and/or task.
  • Know how to effectively warn roadway workers of the approach of trains.
  • Understand the On Track Safety training and qualification required of the roadway workers to be protected.
  • Know the procedure and be proficient in the radio procedure for communicating between RWIC/EIC’s and assigned work group.
  • Be proficient in performing a job briefing with all the roadway workers within their work location.
  • Be able to place railroad advance warning and stop signs.
  • Be able to install a railroad derail and apply locking device.
  • Proficiency with electronic communications including email and text as well as standard office applications (i.e., Microsoft Office Suite).
  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED).

Responsibilities

  • Provide required jobsite protection on each assignment, error-free and consistent with rules, including radio communication with train dispatchers and engineers, ensuring work groups are clear of limits during train movements, and granting permission for trains and on-track equipment to proceed through limits.
  • Perform daily job briefings with all personnel on the job site and ensure adherence to railroad safety requirements.
  • Prepare and submit required electronic forms, including job setup forms, daily work reports, invoices, and other reports.
  • Handle and place signs, derails, and other tools and equipment weighing 15 to 90 pounds.
  • Actively participate in routine safety classes and qualification training.
  • Maintain a high level of communication with RWIC supervisors and managers regarding assignments and schedules.
  • Contribute to a positive, inclusive, and respectful workplace culture.

  • Adhere to all company policies, procedures, and applicable laws and regulations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or required to meet business needs.
