About The Position

RailPros is seeking a Roadway Worker in Charge (RWIC) to perform on-site roadway worker protection for activities on and around live railroad tracks. This role is responsible for job site coordination, dispatcher/train communication, and various types of On-Track Safety in controlled and non-controlled track areas. Requirements

  • Able to complete required physical demands and/or task.
  • Able to effectively warn roadway workers of the approach of trains.
  • Understand the on-track safety training and qualification required of the roadway workers to be protected.
  • Proficient in the radio procedure for communicating between RWIC/EIC’s (Employee in Charge) and assigned work group.
  • Proficient in performing a job briefing with all the roadway workers within their work location.
  • Able to place railroad advance warning and stop signs.
  • Able to install a railroad derail and apply locking device.
  • Proficiency with electronic communications including email and text as well as standard office applications (i.e., Microsoft Office Suite).
  • A high school diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • A minimum of 2 years of Class I railroad experience within Maintenance of Way (MOW).

Responsibilities

  • Provide the required jobsite protection on each assignment, error-free and consistent with the rules; including but not limited to radio communication with train dispatchers and engineers, ensuring work groups are clear of limits during train movements, granting permission for trains and on-track equipment to proceed through limits.
  • Perform daily job briefings with all personnel on the job site and ensure all personnel adhere to the safety requirements of the railroad.
  • Prepare and submit required electronic forms including but not limited to: a job set-up form for each flagging assignment, daily work reports, invoices, and other reports as required.
  • Handle and place signs, derail, and other tools and equipment weighing 15 to 90 pounds, which may be necessary multiple times throughout the day.
  • Actively participate in routine reoccurring safety classes and qualification training.
  • Maintain a high level of communication with the RWIC supervisors and managers regarding the various assignments and schedules.
  • Contribute to a positive, inclusive, and respectful workplace culture, free from behaviors that undermine morale, productivity, or organizational values.
