Requirements

  • Able to complete required physical demands and/or tasks.
  • Able to effectively warn roadway workers of the approach of trains.
  • Understand the on-track safety training and qualification required of the roadway workers to be protected.
  • Proficient in radio procedures for communication between RWIC/EICs and assigned work groups.
  • Proficient in performing a job briefing with all roadway workers within their work location.
  • Able to place railroad advance warning and stop signs.
  • Able to install a railroad derail and apply locking device.
  • Proficiency with electronic communications including email and text.
  • Proficiency with standard office applications (i.e., Microsoft Office Suite).
  • A high school diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • A minimum of 3 years in Maintenance of Way (MOW) or TY&E railroad experience.

Responsibilities

  • Provide on-site roadway worker protection for activities on and around live railroad tracks.
  • Perform job site coordination and dispatcher/train communication.
  • Ensure various types of On Track Safety in controlled and non-controlled track areas.
  • Provide required jobsite protection on each assignment, error-free and consistent with rules.
  • Communicate via radio with train dispatchers and engineers.
  • Ensure work groups are clear of limits during train movements.
  • Grant permission for trains and on-track equipment to proceed through limits.
  • Perform daily job briefings with all personnel on the job site and ensure adherence to railroad safety requirements.
  • Prepare and submit required electronic forms, including job setup forms, daily work reports, invoices, and other reports.
  • Handle and place signs, derails, and other tools and equipment weighing 15 to 90 pounds.
  • Actively participate in routine safety classes and qualification training.
  • Maintain a high level of communication with RWIC supervisors and managers regarding assignments and schedules.
  • Contribute to a positive, inclusive, and respectful workplace culture.
  • Uphold the organization’s standards of integrity, accountability, and respect.
  • Adhere to all company policies, procedures, and applicable laws and regulations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or required to meet business needs.
