About The Position

The incumbent is responsible for supporting CN’s business, people and reputation by proactively changing people’s attitudes and behaviours towards rail safety through proactive enforcement, educational, engineering and engagement initiatives designed to reduce train versus incidents and save lives. The incumbent provides training to internal employees, as well as local police and community members.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in law enforcement
  • Experience working with local, state, and federal agencies in emergency response situations
  • Experience in investigation
  • Experience in supervision
  • General Education Degree (GED) Diploma
  • Specialized training related to policing
  • Commissioned and certified police officer within designated state
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Knowledge of State and Federal Criminal and Civil Laws, Department of Transportation (DOT) and Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) regulations
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Suite (Excel, Word and PowerPoint)
  • Investigative expertise
  • Knowledge of railroad operations

Responsibilities

  • Conduct proactive, targeted safety and security enforcement.
  • Respond to and answer calls for service.
  • Provide emergency response to incidents related to the railroad.
  • Conduct investigations as directed by CN Police leadership in an effort to protect CN’s people, freight, and railway property.
  • Deliver rail safety training.
  • Facilitate information sessions for local law enforcement personnel and community members.
  • Deliver rail safety presentations tailored to a variety of audiences.
  • Ensure the safety and security of the designated territory by establishing priorities and identifying areas requiring safety improvements or repairs.
  • Proactively engage with diverse community stakeholders to identify and address specific actions needed to reduce incidents and save lives.
  • Proactively identify and mitigate security risks affecting CN.
  • Identify areas requiring maintenance, repairs, traffic safety management, and trespassing prevention.
  • Collaborate with city officials and the Engineering department to determine risk-reduction strategies in specific areas.
  • Continuously build professional relationships with key stakeholders across federal, state, provincial, and local law enforcement authorities.
  • Build collaborative professional relationships with CN employees in an ongoing effort to protect CN’s people, business, and reputation.
