About The Position

Cleveland-Cliffs is hiring Railroad Operations Technicians at its Northshore Mining Company plant facility in Silver Bay, Minnesota. The primary function of this role is to operate trains and maintain the track structure. The position requires self-direction and the ability to work effectively as part of a team. Technicians work rotating 12-hour shifts, outdoors, and unsupervised, and must be willing to work varied schedules and overtime as needed. Employees will be required to become certified locomotive engineers.

Requirements

Recent heavy equipment operating experience.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work outdoors, often alone and unsupervised.
Willingness to accept assignments in any area of mine railroad operations.
Ability to respond to unusual or emergency circumstances when off-shift and work a reasonable amount of department overtime.
Excellent safety record.
Excellent attendance record.
Must meet vision requirements specific to determining colors.
Must meet the physical requirements of the position by the close of the posting period.

Nice To Haves

Railroad operating (locomotive) experience.
Completion of a certified railroad training program from a college.

Responsibilities

Complete railroad work assignments with minimal supervision in the yard or on the tails line.
Perform assignments in train operations and track maintenance.
Learn and follow directions.
Become a certified locomotive engineer.
Accept assignments in any area of mine railroad operations.
Respond to unusual or emergency circumstances when off-shift and work a reasonable amount of department overtime.
Perform other duties as assigned.
