This position involves repairing, modifying, and upgrading rail cars. The role requires rebuilding car components such as bolsters, side framers, hitch heads, and box car doors. A significant portion of the time will be spent on mechanical labor, welding, and fabrication using cutting torches. The Railcar Repairman will inspect machines and equipment to diagnose and resolve issues, operate forklifts for moving parts, and perform pipe work and air line replacements. The job also includes assembling and testing components, repairing broken parts, and entering repair information into an electronic system. Performance standards include meeting specified time standards, adhering to customer requirements (AAR, FMO, FRA, TTX, etc.), complying with work rules, and maintaining a safe working environment.
