This position involves repairing, modifying, and upgrading rail cars. The role requires rebuilding car components such as bolsters, side framers, hitch heads, and box car doors. A significant portion of the time will be spent on mechanical labor, welding, and using a cutting torch. The Railcar Repairman will maintain and repair railcars according to blueprints and specifications, using a variety of hand and power tools. Responsibilities also include operating a forklift, repairing air lines, assembling subassemblies, and entering repair information into an electronic system. Performance standards require adherence to specified time standards, customer requirements (AAR, FMO, FRA, TTX, etc.), work rules, and safety protocols.
