This position involves repairing, modifying, and upgrading rail cars. The role requires rebuilding car components such as bolsters, side framers, hitch heads, and box car doors. A significant portion of the time will be spent welding, fabricating, and using a cutting torch. The Railcar Repairman will perform mechanical labor, repair and maintain railcars according to blueprints and specifications using various tools, and inspect equipment to diagnose issues. The role also includes operating a forklift, repairing air lines, assembling components, testing for proper operation, repairing broken parts, and entering repair information into an electronic system. Marginal functions include maintaining a clean work environment, setting up metalworking tools, and performing other assigned duties.
