This position involves repairing, modifying, and upgrading rail cars. The role requires rebuilding car components such as bolsters, side framers, hitch heads, and box car doors. A significant portion of the time will be spent on mechanical labor, welding, and using cutting torches. The Railcar Repairman will inspect machines and equipment to diagnose and troubleshoot issues, and will use hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring instruments to perform repairs according to blueprints and specifications. The role also includes operating a forklift, repairing air lines, assembling subassemblies and components, and testing for proper operation. Additionally, the position requires entering car repair information via an electronic keyboard system. Marginal functions include maintaining a clean work environment, setting up and operating metalworking tools, and performing other assigned duties.
