About The Position

Responsible for completing high quality railcar repairs, modifications and upgrades in a safe and timely manner according to customer and regulatory guidelines. This role ensures quality repairs are made promptly to minimize equipment downtime for customers. Safety is paramount, requiring a proactive approach to potential risks and consistent use of proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Quality work that complies with customer and regulatory requirements is essential.

Requirements

High School Diploma or equivalent capabilities.
Basic mathematical skills to include addition, subtraction, fractions and units of measure.
Reading comprehension to include reading blueprints, technical manuals and regulatory guidelines.
Basic mechanical skills.
Safety awareness.
Comfort in industrial setting.
Must be able to complete physical requirements with or without accommodation.
Steel toe shoes, hard hat, ear plugs, safety glasses, required gloves, welding shield, cutting shield, burning goggles, grinding shield, and proper clothing (long sleeve shirts and long pants while welding), and any other site-specific PPE required.

Responsibilities

Complete high quality railcar repairs, modifications and upgrades in a safe and timely manner according to customer and regulatory guidelines.
Ensure quality repairs are made on a timely basis to reduce out-of-service time for the equipment of host railroads and other customers.
Approach every task proactively with potential risks and safety always in mind and utilize the proper PPE without exception while on the job.
Ensure quality work is completed that is compliant with both customer and regulatory requirements.
Repair, modify, upgrade and clean railcars according to blueprints and other specifications using hand tools, power tools and precision measuring instruments.
Rebuild railcar components: bolsters, side framers, hitch heads, and box car doors using hand tools and power tools and precision measuring instruments.
Assemble subassemblies, major components and equipment. Check function to test for proper operation.
Measure, cut and thread pipes.
Replace air lines using hand tools.
Move, align and set parts in place using a forklift or bobcat.
Repair broken parts using hand tools and welding equipment.
Maintain a clean work environment, including any shop or administrative space and company vehicles.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Operations Manager.
