Railcar Repair Technician
About The Position
Railserve is hiring dependable, safety-focused Railcar Repair Technicians in Indianapolis, IN to support daily rail operations at industrial facilities. This is a full-time, outdoor, hands-on role critical to keeping railcars moving safely and efficiently. Requirements
- High School diploma or GED
- Valid driver’s license (required for FRA-regulated site)
- Ability to read and understand basic blueprints and perform basic math
- Mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn
- Ability to lift, carry, and handle equipment (up to ~50 lbs)
Nice To Haves
- Knowledge of FRA/AAR regulations preferred
Responsibilities
- Repair or replace defective or worn parts such as valves, hatch covers, components, and gates
- Inspect railcar components (bearings, seals, wheels, couplers) to determine repair needs
- Perform scheduled maintenance and ensure proper operation of repaired equipment
- Record inspection findings and maintenance work performed
- Remove and install mechanical components using hand tools, hoists, and torches
- Repair and maintain braking systems
- Fabricate and install steel or wood fittings using blueprints and manuals
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment
- Perform additional duties as assigned by leadership
