About The Position

Transco Rail Services, a part of Marmon Holdings (backed by Berkshire Hathaway), is seeking an experienced Railcar Repair Technician. This role involves performing full-service railcar repair and maintenance, serving freight and tank car fleets across multiple industries. Requirements

  • Must Have Railcar / Tank Car Repair Experience
  • Must Be Open To Project Based Traveling Nationwide
  • Tank Car Experience Required - Preferably 2yrs
  • Some travel may be required
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Demonstrate job-related knowledge including following written instructions
  • Demonstrate an ability to safely operate machinery including, but not limited to large work vehicles, which may also pull trailers from time to time, and forklifts
  • Be dependable and reliable to show up for scheduled work shifts including any overtime
  • Ability to learn basic railcar knowledge
  • Proficiency with the use of basic hand and power tools
  • Ability to learn basic knowledge of how to read Engineering drawings
  • Ability to perform confined space entry or monitoring and create hot work permits
  • Ability to pass any required NDT disciplines and function specific certifications, which may include tank car welding, and demonstrates strong familiarity with AAR rules and regulations
  • Ability to obtain Welding and Airbrake Test certifications within 6 - 12 months (timeline and required test depend on specific location)
  • Must be legal to work in the United State now and in the future without sponsorship requirements

Nice To Haves

  • Tank Qualification experience is a plus
  • Ability to pass DOT Requirements is a plus
  • Any type of welding/mechanical experience or railcar knowledge is a preferred

Responsibilities

  • Understand and perform all work outlined under Supervision
  • Conduct railcar inspections to ensure cars comply with all FRA, AAR, and customer requirements
  • Perform repairs as necessary while always using current safety and quality standards and repair procedures
  • Perform mechanical repairs to railroad freight cars including tank and hopper cars when required
  • Occasionally performing welding repairs when needed
  • Coordinate and complete repairs in an efficient manner and within assigned hours
  • Maintain work area in a neat and orderly manner and report potential hazards
  • Notify supervision of any materials and/or equipment required to ensure completion of job tasks
  • Interact well with team members and supervision
  • Meet the expectations and requirements of all customers to ensure we deliver a best-in-class customer experience
  • Ensure all necessary invoicing, inspection, and work order information is accurate and complete
  • Actively participate in safety assessments and equipment inspections
  • Follow all safety rules and practices
  • May be involved in safety committees or initiatives
  • Perform other duties as assigned
