About The Position

Road & Rail Services is hiring a dependable, safety-focused Railcar Repair Technician to inspect, maintain, and repair railcars. This hands-on outdoor position is ideal for someone with a strong mechanical background and experience using welding equipment and basic hand tools. Previous railcar repair experience is preferred but not required. Candidates with relevant welding, fabrication, industrial maintenance, diesel, trailer, or heavy-equipment repair experience are encouraged to apply.

Requirements

  • Strong mechanical aptitude or relevant repair experience
  • Experience safely using basic hand and mechanical tools
  • Dependable attendance and a strong work ethic
  • Ability to understand and follow repair instructions and safety procedures
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Willingness to work outdoors in changing weather conditions
  • Bend, squat, twist, walk, and perform repetitive physical movements throughout the shift
  • Frequently open railcar end doors requiring up to 90 pounds of pulling force and 68 pounds of pushing force
  • Occasionally climb ladders and work at heights exceeding 16 feet
  • Work outdoors in heat, cold, dust, rain, and noisy conditions
  • Safely wear all required personal protective equipment
  • Perform the essential duties of the position with or without reasonable accommodation

Nice To Haves

  • Previous railcar repair experience
  • Welding experience strongly preferred
  • Relevant welding, fabrication, industrial maintenance, diesel, trailer, or heavy-equipment repair experience

Responsibilities

  • Inspect railcars for damage, wear, fatigue, and serviceability
  • Determine which repairs can be completed by Road & Rail Services
  • Perform authorized repairs according to customer requirements and AAR specifications
  • Complete mechanical repair, welding, cutting, grinding, and related maintenance work
  • Safely use pipe wrenches, pry bars, ratchets, wrenches, and other hand tools
  • Operate approved equipment, including all-terrain vehicles and tractors
  • Follow all company, customer, and regulatory safety procedures
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area
  • Report unsafe conditions, damaged equipment, and repair concerns promptly
  • Work independently while meeting quality and productivity expectations
