About The Position

Responsible for the overall repair of various types of railcars. This position performs at a high level of proficiency in railcar repairs with very limited supervision. The position may perform training functions as needed. This list may include tasks that do not apply to your location based on the type of work completed at your location.

Requirements

• Must be able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals and blueprints
• Must be able to write routine reports and correspondence and speak and communicate effectively
• Must possess basic math skills and work and understand simple mathematical concepts
• Must possess reasoning ability to solve practical problems
• Must be able to fully pass the fitness-for-duty examination, (including any PPE fit test requirements), pre-employment physical, and pre-employment drug screenings

Nice To Haves

• High-school diploma or general education degree (GED), preferred, but not required

Responsibilities

• Successfully complete, perform, and maintain the Railcar Repair Technician I and II job functions
• Perform shop switching responsibilities
• Understand and use decal machinery
• Assist Lead and Supervisors with training for Level I and II technicians as needed
• Comply with company’s Quality Program by following all in-house quality processes and procedures and required AAR and FRA rules and regulations as well as any client specific procedures
• Perform M214 truck rebuild and gauging per AAR and manufacturer specifications
• Perform in-process and final QC inspections, including use of AAR Rule 1 gages
• Basic understanding and use of fabrication equipment such as, but not limited to: drill press, punch, brake press, and sheer
• Meet the requirements of AWS D15.1 for freight car utilizing GMAW (Hard wire), FCAW (Flux Core) and/or SMAW (Stick) welding mild carbon steel, stainless steel, Grade C casting steel and aluminum as well as our internal welding technology training and examination
• Other duties may be assigned
