About The Position

Road & Rail Services is hiring a Railcar Mechanic / Railroad Carman for our Wausau, Wisconsin operation. If you have experience in welding, fabrication, industrial maintenance, heavy equipment repair, diesel mechanics, trailer repair, manufacturing maintenance, or another hands-on mechanical trade, your skills may transfer well to this position. Previous railroad experience is preferred, but it is not required. We are interested in mechanically skilled candidates who know how to work safely, use tools, troubleshoot problems, and complete quality repairs. We encourage qualified candidates throughout the greater Wausau area to apply, including those commuting from Weston, Schofield, Rothschild, Mosinee, Merrill, Stevens Point, Wisconsin Rapids, Antigo, and surrounding Central Wisconsin communities.

Requirements

A strong mechanical aptitude or skilled-trade background
Welding experience is highly recommended
Experience using basic hand and power tools
Ability to work independently and as part of a repair team
Strong attention to safety and repair quality
Dependable attendance and willingness to work in an outdoor industrial environment
Valid driver's license when required to operate company equipment

Nice To Haves

Previous railroad experience is preferred

Responsibilities

Inspect railcars for mechanical defects, structural damage, wear, and fatigue
Identify repairs that can be completed within Road & Rail Services' authorized scope
Complete approved mechanical repairs according to customer requirements and applicable AAR specifications
Perform welding, cutting, grinding, fabrication, and component replacement as required
Use hand and power tools including wrenches, ratchets, pry bars, grinders, and related repair equipment
Operate company equipment such as tractors and all-terrain vehicles when authorized
Maintain a clean and safe work area
Follow all company, customer, and railroad safety procedures
