About The Position

This position is responsible for the design, maintenance, and repair of railcars. The Railcar Engineer will ensure that all railcars meet safety and operational standards, and will be involved in troubleshooting and problem-solving related to railcar equipment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in railcar design, maintenance, or engineering.
  • Strong understanding of railcar components, systems, and materials.
  • Knowledge of AAR (Association of American Railroads) standards and regulations.
  • Proficiency in CAD software for design and drafting.
  • Experience with maintenance management systems.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in a relevant engineering field.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Experience with specialized railcar types (e.g., tank cars, hopper cars).
  • Familiarity with welding and fabrication processes.
  • Experience in project management.

Responsibilities

  • Design and engineer railcar modifications and repairs.
  • Develop and implement maintenance schedules for railcar fleets.
  • Conduct inspections and assessments of railcar condition.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose mechanical and structural issues with railcars.
  • Oversee repair and fabrication processes for railcar components.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant safety regulations and industry standards.
  • Collaborate with operations and maintenance teams to optimize railcar performance.
  • Manage projects related to railcar upgrades and improvements.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance, repairs, and inspections.
