About The Position

This position supports the CF Rail Services team, a leading provider of railcar repair and maintenance. The Railcar Cleaning & Assembly Technician 1 is responsible for the overall cleaning, dismantling, and final assembly of various types of railcars. The role involves performing mechanical repairs, grinding, and cleaning on different railcar types, and operating various hand and power tools. Maintaining a high level of quality in accordance with the company's quality assurance program is essential. The technician will learn and develop a comprehensive understanding of various railcars, components, and billing repair cards, and will be proficient in documenting work performed on work orders and recording additional repairs. The role also requires maintaining a clean and orderly work area in compliance with safety and environmental regulations, contributing to team efforts, and setting an example by adhering to company core values. Safety procedures and the basic logistics of the railroad industry and repair business must be learned and followed. Training will be provided for operating equipment such as forklifts, man lifts, and skid loaders.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Successfully pass the following courses with an 80% or higher score coordinated by CF Rail Management: FRA Freight Car Safety Standards, Safety Data Sheets.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations in English.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Must always act to support the interests of the department and organization and to perform other duties as assigned to ensure the successful achievement of departmental and company objectives.
  • Work assignments involve standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, reaching, climbing, crawling, and crouching in strained and awkward positions for prolonged periods of time at various heights up to 20 feet.
  • Uses hands, legs, and arms to climb vertical ladders to staging or suspended platforms.
  • Lifts, carries, and sets up equipment and components that weigh up to 50 lbs.
  • Employee must be medically certified to wear a respirator, as well as be able to wear respirators for prolonged periods of time.
  • Ability to operate electrical and pneumatic tools.
  • Ability to operate heavy equipment (Cranes, Jacks).
  • Ability to operate Forklifts, Mobile Service Trucks, Boom Lifts.

Responsibilities

  • Perform repairs such as mechanical, grinding, and cleaning on various types of railcars.

  • Maintain a high level of quality in accordance with the CFRS quality assurance program.
  • Learn and develop a complete understanding of various railcars, components, and billing repair cards.
  • Document work performed on work orders and record additional repairs.
  • Keep work area clean and orderly to comply with CFRS, OSHA, and environmental rules and regulations.
  • Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

  • Learn and adhere to all CFRS safety procedures.
  • Learn the basic flow and logistics of the railroad industry and repair business.
  • Receive documented training to set up and operate or drive equipment such as forklifts, man lifts, and skid loaders.
