A day in the life As evening kicks off your shift at 4:00pm, you’ll head to the Carshell welding and BG manufacturing areas, where your eye for detail safeguards the build quality of passenger railcars. You’ll interpret specifications and drawings, confirm the correct configuration revision, and execute visual CWI, dimensional, and mechanical checks on welded and machined components. You’ll apply one or more non-destructive testing methods to validate weld integrity, and when needed, you’ll complete first article inspections and compile concise reports and diagnostics. Throughout, you’ll keep data flowing accurately by entering, maintaining, and retrieving information in our Material Resource Planning system, noncompliance tracking tools, and Configuration Management System. Schedule and location Monday–Thursday, 4:00pm–2:30am at our world-class passenger railcar manufacturing facility in Lexington, NC .

Requirements

  • Current Certified Weld Inspector (CWI) credential or a PT Level II (penetrant testing) certification.
  • Willingness to obtain any missing certification within a reasonable timeframe.
  • Comfort navigating databases and entering results into electronic inspection systems.
  • Ability to travel to Sacramento, CA for training—an initial trip of at least two weeks, with additional trips as needed.
  • Applicants must be legally authorized for employment in the United States without needing current or future employer-sponsored work authorization.
