Wayside Coordinators monitor, manage, and coordinate all wayside systems, alarms, and asset functionality across the Link Light Rail network, dispatching staff to resolve service disruptions, and collaborate with Link Controllers to ensure the safety of employees and riders on or near the trackway. Applicants for these positions are required to undergo drug testing prior to employment and subsequent to commencement of employment, will be subject to random, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, return to duty, and follow-up drug and alcohol testing in compliance with Federal DOT alcohol and controlled substance testing program protocols.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of and experience with SCADA systems, rail signaling, Track & Right of Way (ROW), and on-track safety practices
  • Skill in problem solving and analysis
  • Skill in communicating and giving oral and written directions
  • Ability to interpret technical diagrams, schedules, and safety procedures
  • Ability to handle multiple competing priorities
  • Ability to effectively engage in and sustain relationships with people from diverse cultures and socio-economic backgrounds
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member
  • Demonstrated proficiency with business applications, such as Microsoft Office suite
  • Must pass drug and alcohol testing provision for safety sensitive position as required by U.S. Department of Transportation, 49 CFR Parts 40 and 655
  • A valid Driver’s License and an acceptable driving record. If you possess an out-of-state driver’s license, you must obtain a WA state license within 30 days of hire

Nice To Haves

  • 3 or more years of relevant Wayside experience
  • 3 or more years of working in an active railroad and/or dispatching environment

Responsibilities

  • Monitor wayside systems continuously, including signals, switches, and track circuits, via the SCADA system, TCS (Train Control System), BMS (Building Management System), and EVS (Emergency Ventilation System) alarms.
  • Monitor and respond to alarms, malfunctions, or irregularities.
  • Monitor trackway SCADA protections administered by LCC (Link Control Center) controllers.
  • Open, close, and coordinate track access permits with LCC Controllers.
  • Maintain clear and timely communication with LCC Supervisors and Chiefs, field technicians, maintenance crews, and other control center personnel via radio, phone, and other systems.
  • Create daily shift appropriate packages of on-track activities and required protection for each controller.
  • Identify, assess, and prioritize incidents or failures affecting wayside systems.
  • Coordinate with maintenance teams to troubleshoot and promptly resolve equipment issues.
  • Coordinate with LCC Duty Chief to implement temporary measures to maintain safe operations during disruptions.
  • Communicate impacts on train movement and repair status to LCC Controllers.
  • Relay critical information immediately regarding track conditions, service disruptions, and safety hazards.
  • Coordinate safe access for maintenance crews, inspectors, and other personnel working on or near the tracks.
  • Collaborate with LCC controllers to ensure integration of train, wayside, and personnel safety operations.
  • Monitor track safety activities for compliance with RWP (roadway worker protection) rules and other standards.
  • Participate in regular safety training and drills.
  • Log wayside incidents, alarms, and actions taken in the incident management system.
  • Elevate potential safety concerns to the LCC Duty Chief.
  • Prepare shift reports and track safety coordination efforts.
  • Document maintenance requests, track access permits, and safety compliance records.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
